title = "Performance evaluation of 5G NR NTN communication services over GovSatCom system",
abstract = "This paper investigates the performance impact of Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) mechanism in 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) in case of a GEO satellite link at X band that is a use case of GovSatCom system. To this end, we have evaluated the HARQ processes and k-offset Rel.17/18 NTN features under two key scenarios such as a single and a multi cell connectivity scenario. Our methodology relies on actual testbed using the srsRAN protocol stack and Matlab for channel modeling for the 5G system and the GovSatCom respectively. The study emphasizes protocol-level behavior and highlights system limitations specific to long-propagation delay environments in terms of throughput and block error rate (BLER). We demonstrate that optimized HARQ processes significantly enhance performance for running services over 5G-GovSatCom systems.",
