Abstract
A new technique is presented for fabricating optical rib waveguides in chalcogenide glasses. As40Se60/Ge17As 18Se65 (at. %) rib waveguides were fabricated in a one-step process by hot pressing two As40Se60 fibers sandwiched between a silicon mold and a planar Ge17As 18Se65 glass substrate, resulting in a series of replicated thin-film rib structures on glass. Optical characterization at λ = 1.55 μm reveals single-mode waveguide propagation, in agreement with numerical modeling.
