Abstract

Efficient Mukaiyama-type aldol reaction of 1, 2-bis(trimethylsiloxy)cyclobutene with aromatic aldehydes catalyzed by MgI₂ is reported. The resulting succinoylation product of aldehyde was converted into the synthetic useful γ-lactone and butenolide derivatives.
