Abstract

The interlaminar toughness like GIC and GIIC of BMI based composite laminates Ex-situ toughened was studied as well as the interlaminar microstructure and morphology, impact damage resistance, compression strength after impact, and the typical in-plan and out-plan mechanical properties. Based on the Ex-situ toughening concept, it is found that a thermoplastic/thermosetting co-continuous phase is formed by the reaction-induced spinodal phase separation, followed by phase inversion and coarsening in the interlaminar region of composite laminate, which dramatically improves the interlaminar fracture toughness, impact damage resistance and compression strength after impact.
