Abstract

The Horizontal Metropolis project investigates the evolving nature of urban environments, particularly the interplay between rural and urban areas. It features a documentary film–produced by Dr Levi Dean and Dr Filippo Gilardi, and involved the creative and technical support of Dr Andrea Palmioli, Dr Paola Vigano Thomas Zhao, Yuchen Peng and UNNC students–that serves as a central resource for a culminating exhibition, capturing the essence of the research, which is being put forward for evaluation as a non-traditional research output. The film transforms complex urban concepts into relatable narratives through interviews and case studies, aiming to engage diverse audiences, while the exhibition explores innovative strategies for sustainable urbanisation and the interconnectedness of environmental and social dynamics.
