Abstract

An oversight in the extent of the summary of the existing literature resulted in several key papers by Hutchings and McIntosh being omitted from the published article, which are cited herein. These studies investigate the origin of enhanced kinetics of catalytic aerobic oxidation over bimetallic Au–Pd catalytic systems, specifically those in which the two metals are spatially separated as physical mixtures of two catalysts. This body of work justifies an elevation in performance through a cooperative redox enhancement effect within these systems, (1) explaining the thermochemical rate enhancement through electrochemical coupling of disparate catalytic sites and reactions, (2) supported by Tafel analysis, (3) which builds on previous literature. (4) We recognize the contributions that these studies have made to the field and the relevance to our published article, including observations on optimal Au–Pd molar ratios and partial mapping (5-hydroxymethyl-2-furancarboxylic acid and 5-formyl-2-furancarboxylic acid) of the reaction pathway through kinetic analysis over sol-immobilized-based catalysts. In addition, it has also come to our attention that ref 44 in the original publication was an unintentional duplication of ref 37 within the manuscript.
