Abstract

The present invention relates to a system and method for data gathering in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) having sensor devices which are isolated in the presence of adverse environmental effects. The system includes a WSN with mobile sensor device, deployed in an area vulnerable to frequent change of environmental condition such as increase/decrease in temperature, rainfall and fog. Due to the existence of these adverse environmental effects the communication range of sensor devices decreases. When the communication range of a particular sensor device decreases below the distance from that sensor device to the nearest active neighbor sensor device, the former gets isolated from the network. Therefore, such sensor devices fail to transmit the sensed data to the other devices. As adverse environmental effects are transient in nature, the affected sensor devices regain their connectivity with the other devices, when the environmental conditions become favorable again. Thus, in this context, an application is deprived of input data from this particular sensor device. Clearly, it is of significant importance to gather data from each such sensor device in order to continue with the normal operations of the WSNs.
