Abstract

This study investigates the intersection of sustainable artificial lighting and circular economy principles through a systematic bibliometric analysis of peer-reviewed literature indexed in Web of Science and Scopus (2005–2025). A predefined search string identified over 1000 publications, which were refined to 42 core articles through dual-researcher screening using stringent inclusion criteria focusing on technological innovations, lifecycle assessments, and circular design in lighting systems. Analytical metrics included publication trends, citation networks, geographic distribution, and thematic clusters evaluated through VOSviewer and Bibliometrix. Three key findings emerged: firstly research output shows a 5.65 % annual growth rate with fluctuating patterns; secondly Spain, China, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Italy, the UK and India collectively have contributed over 70 % of high-impact studies, despite limited international collaborations of roughly 23.8 %; thirdy thematic analysis reveals concentrated research domains in LED sustainability, circular OLED systems, and sustainable lighting design frameworks. These findings highlight critical gaps and provide critical insights in cross-domain integration and global cooperation within circular lighting research.
