A Comparative Study of Common Failures and Fault Ride-Through Techniques for Input-Series Output-Parallel (ISOP) Converters

Abstract

ISOP converters are particularly attractive for high
voltage applications. This paper focuses on three representative
ISOP topologies: ISOP DAB, ISOP LLC, and hybrid ISOP.
On this basis, common fault types at different levels—including
power semiconductor devices, sub-modules, dc bus, and load
side—are systematically reviewed and categorized. The paper
then summarizes key fault ride-through (FRT) techniques, and
discusses how these methods are implemented in three topologies.
Finally, the fault ride-through capabilities and fault-handling
ability of ISOP DAB, ISOP LLC, and Hybrid ISOP are compar
atively analyzed, providing guidance for the selection and design
of ISOP architectures with FRT methods.
