R&D of Key Technologies for the Synthesis of Medium-Chain Carboxylic Acids Through the Coupling of Renewable Energy Seawater Electrolysis Hydrogen Production, Carbon Dioxide Electrocatalytic Reduction, and Microbial Carbon Chain Elongation

Project Details

Description

Funded by the Yongjiang 2035 Key Technology Breakthrough Programme, this project develops essential technologies for offshore green energy utilization and carbon dioxide (CO2) valorization. The research focuses on integrating seawater electrolysis for hydrogen production with electrochemical and biological CO2 conversion. The primary objective is to couple these processes to synthsize high-value chemicals, such as medium-chain fatty acids. Within this initiative, the UNNC leads the development of specialized catalysts to drive efficient seawater electrolysis and CO2 reduction.
