Yilong Yang is a Japanese language tutor at the Language Centre and has been serving on the department's Senior Tutor team since Spring 2021.

Prior to joining UNNC, Yang worked in higher education settings in the US with Japanese language students from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds, including native English speakers, Chinese- and Korean-English bilinguals, and Japanese heritage learners. He also has experience working with EFL and JFL students preparing for standardized academic and language tests.

Yang graduated Phi Beta Kappa with general and departmental honors from Vassar College and later obtained an EdM from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and an MSc with distinction from the University of Oxford. He is an educator member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. His current academic interests include non-linguistic cognitive consequences of bilingualism across the life span, language assessment, language policy, and mental health in higher education.
