Yilong completed a BA at Vassar College, with his junior year spent at Waseda University in Tokyo. After college, he went on to obtain an MSc in Applied Linguistics from the University of Oxford and an EdM in Mind, Brain, and Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
During his time in the US, Yilong worked in higher education settings with Japanese language students from a variety of linguistic backgrounds, including native speakers of English, Chinese, and Korean, and Japanese heritage learners. He also has experience teaching English as a second language.
Yilong's current academic interests include mental health in higher education, L1 and L2 acquisition, language policy and assessment, and non-linguistic cognitive consequences of bilingualism across the lifespan.
