Yi's research focuses on tourism policy-making, cultural interpretation, rural tourism, family travel, and sustainable planning. She earned her PhD from Sheffield Hallam University, where her dissertation explored “Tourism Policy Networks and Tourism Development in China.” Her doctoral studies were supported by an Overseas Research Scholarship from the Higher Education Funding Council for England. Yi has a strong publication record, with her work on rural tourism, family travel, and social networks appearing in top-tier journals such as Annals of Tourism ResearchJournal of Travel ResearchTourism Management, and Journal of Rural Studies.
