Qie Yi has an MA in Japanese Language and Culture from Osaka University, where she was a Mongakusho scholar. Qie Yi worked in Japan as a translator and as the Assistant Director of a group of colleges. She now teaches Japanese language modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students at UNNC.
Since joining UNNC in 2017, she has served in various capacities, including Head of the Japanese Language Team, Director of Teaching and Learning, and Interim Director of the Language Centre. Qie Yi is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and has Member Status at the Chartered Institute of Linguists (MCIL).
In 2024, she was an individual winner of the Lord Dearing Award, awarded for outstanding contribution to the development of teaching and student learning.
