I joined the School of Education and English at University of Nottingham Ningbo China in August 2026. Before joining UNNC, I led and contributed to research and teaching at the City University of Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong, the University of Leicester, and Aston University. I am actively involved in academic service, strengthening the linguistics community, driving interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhancing the impact of my work. I am currently a committee member of Open Applied Linguistics (AILA ReN), an executive board member of Critical Approaches to Discourse Analysis across Disciplines (CADAAD), and an editorial advisory board member for the ‘Language, Discourse and Mental Health’ book series for the University of Exeter Press. I have also served as a reviewer for a number of journals and conferences, such as Discourse & Communication, International Gender and Language Association Conference, and International Conference on Social Media & Society.

My research is driven by a commitment to interdisciplinarity and engagement beyond academia. Broadly speaking, I am passionate about exploring the relationship between language and society. I am interested in collaborating on and supervising research across a range of topics, including but not limited to translanguaging, gender and sexuality, news and social media, intercultural communication, health communication, and discourse, education and AI. My work is deeply interdisciplinary, and I have experience in discourse analysis, corpus linguistics, multimodality, conversation analysis, interviews, and (digital) ethnography.
